High-pressure X-ray Diffraction Study of Diaspore
Effects of pressure on lattice parameters and molar volume of diaspore were studied to 25.5 GPa at 300 K by polycrystailine X-ray diffraction techniques. The pressure-volume data fit with a second-order Birch-Murnaghan equation of state give a bulk modulus K0 = 167.5 GPa. The bulk modulus is twice the previously reported, but unsubstantiated, value of K0 = 85 GPa by Ruoff and Vanderborgh [Phys....
متن کاملHigh pressure X-ray diffraction study of potassium azide
Crystal structure and compressibility of potassium azide was investigated by in-situ synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction in a diamond anvil cell at room temperature up to 37.7 GPa. In the bodycentered tetragonal (bct) phase, an anisotropic compressibility was observed with greater compressibility in the direction perpendicular to the plane containing N3 ions than directions within that plane. ...
متن کاملHigh-pressure X-ray diffraction study on α-PbF2
The high-pressure behaviour of α-PbF2 has been investigated by angular-dispersive synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction up to 6.55(8) GPa. The fit of a 3-order BirchMurnaghan equation-of-state gave the volume at zero pressure V0=194.14(4) Å 3 and the bulk modulus b0=47.0(6) GPa with the pressure derivative b’=7.9(4). The continuous-symmetry-measure approach has been used for the quantification o...
متن کاملAnomalous high-pressure behavior of amorphous selenium from synchrotron x-ray diffraction and microtomography.
The high-pressure behavior of amorphous selenium has been investigated with time-resolved diamond anvil cell synchrotron x-ray diffraction and computed microtomography techniques. A two-step dynamic crystallization process is observed in which the monoclinic phase crystallized from the amorphous selenium and gradually converted to the trigonal phase, thereby explaining previously observed anoma...
متن کامل(Anomalous) X-ray Pulsars
Prior to the commissioning of BeppoSAX and the Rossi X-ray Timing Observatory in 1996, the so-called “Anomalous” X-ray Pulsars (AXPs) were considered very mysterious sources, because the energy source for their bright X-ray emission was unknown. At the time, there were only 3 known members of this class. They were distinguished by having periods in the narrow range 6–9 s, showing approximately ...
